TIRUPUR: Police on Thursday began investigations with the staff of a private gold loan finance firm here in connection with the seizure of 40 fake notes with face value of Rs 20,000 from a customer of a private bank branch on Wednesday.Police sources, on Wednesday, said Tirupur resident Prabakaran went to a branch of the Karur Vysya Bank on Kumaran Road to deposit an amount of Rs 35,000 in his father Rajendran’s bank account.  However, the cashier found that 40 of the Rs 500 notes he had brought were fake.When the staff inquired with Prabakaran about this, he claimed that he had borrowed the cash  from the branch of a private gold loan finance firm located on Dharapuram Road after pledging his gold jewellery, as his father had been in urgent need of the cash.Later, Prabakaran left the bank, only to return with two police constables.Following an inquiry at the bank, the cops went to the finance firm’s office for further investigations.As the office had closed for the day, the police decided to continue their investigations the following day.Meanwhile, when Prabakaran failed to return to the private bank branch, the staff became suspicious and subsequently lodged a complaint with the Tirupur North police on Wednesday night.They also handed over the fake currency to the police.On Thursday, police commenced investigations with the staff of the finance firm.
