THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A third year female student of the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College was slapped by a man in front of the hospital entrance on Friday morning. Following the incident, medical students went on a strike demanding strong security measures on the campus and hospital premises. Sollymon, a native of Ezhukone, Kollam, who slapped the student, was later remanded in police custody. Police said that he used to roam around on the hospital premises. ”We suspect he has some mental problem. Earlier, he had undergone treatment for leg injury in the hospital,” they said. College Union Chairman Vineeth M S said the fact that the person had slapped a female student in broad daylight - at 9 am - raises serious concern over the safety of students. “So, we demand strong security measures,” Vineeth said.
