New Delhi: Family members and well-wishers of Dana Sangma, the Amity University student who allegedly committed suicide after being caught cheating in a exam, on Friday alleged that Haryana Police was not serious about probing the case and demanded its transfer to the CBI.
The victim's elder sister Balsame M Sangma and her cousin Victor D Sangma said only a CBI inquiry can bring out the truth in the case, which they alleged was being ignored by the Haryana Police.
"They are not serious. That is why we have filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court demanding that an independent agency like the CBI take over the case. A fearless and independent investigation has to take place to uncover the truth," Balsame Sangma told a press conference here.
She claimed that her sister, a second-year student at the Amity University in Gurgaon, had complained to her father several times that she was "being treated differently" and there was some kind of discrimination against her.
Victor Sangma, coordinator of 'Justice for Sangma' campaign, alleged that the Haryana Police was not serious about the case and are "willing to hand over the case to any other agency."
"This shows their attitude. They are not interested in doing anything...the Home Minister should make an announcement that the CBI will take over the case. We cannot allow such things to continue," he alleged.
They also alleged that the University authorities removed Dana Sangma's body from her room before the family members could arrive.
Arguing that taking mobile phone in the exam hall is not a crime, the family members said Dana had written in the exam paper that she did not copy from anywhere. "After she was asked to hand over the paper, she was taken to a room where eight members of the top management questioned her. No one knows what happened there and what kind of questions were posed to her," he said.
