While tens of thousand of voters exercised their franchise on Monday, Baba Ahmed Ali’s family could be no less than every politician's delight. A family with 136 members including 98 voters. Ahmed’s family clearly reminds us of Ziona Chana, the man with the largest family in the world.
According to a report published in The Times of India, the family converged at the poll booth to cast their ballot on May 12. Moreover, the family lives together and has a huge ‘sanjha choolah’ in the kitchen. Ahmed Ali was the adopted child of Sufi saint Samera Sharif, who arrived in Maharajganj about 100 years ago. Ahmed and his wife were survived by eight sons and their large families. The subsequent generation had 31 sons and 21 daughters who live with their spouses, children and grand-children in one big house having 60 rooms besides common rooms and kitchen.
While the family members refused to divulge the details of the candidate they voted for, the head of the family Mohd Shamimullah said, “ we think it is better to choose a good candidate than to go in for a political party.”
