New Delhi: Just a few days after a 40-year-old British man was beaten to death in a small village in Konkan for allegedly harassing a woman, a Swedish couple was attacked and injured by a drunk man at Thekkady Periyar Reserve in Kochi, Kerala on Saturday.
While the man, Jan Coaster, suffered injuries on the arms and neck, his wife, Eva, had a knife pierced in her right eye. The accused, a 30-year-old man, has been arrested.
The knife was removed at a hospital in Thekkady and she was rushed to the Lakshore hospital in Kochi on Saturday night.
A CT scan showed that Eva’s optic nerve was cut and she was most likely to lose her vision, PTI quoted Managing Director of the Lakshore Hospital, Dr Philip Augustine, as saying.
While Coaster is manager of BMW in Sweden, his wife is a computer teacher there.
The couple has arranged for an air ambulance from Europe, which is likely to reach Kochi either Sunday or Monday, Augustine said.
Kerala Tourism Minister, Kodiyeri Balakrishanan, who visited the couple at the hospital, said all steps would be taken to ensure that they were airlifted to their country as soon as possible.
