Doordarshan anchor Lopamudra Sinha said she was feeling unwell before the broadcast, but attempted to carry on after having a glass of water

A Doordarshan anchor fainted on air while live reporting heatwave updates in West Bengal. Anchor Lopamudra Sinha, stationed at the Kolkata branch of Doordarshan, shared her story on Facebook.

In her Facebook post, Sinha spoke about the moment her blood pressure suddenly plummeted during the live news broadcast, leading to her collapse.

Sinha said she was feeling unwell before the broadcast, but attempted to carry on after having a glass of water, assuming it would make her feel better.

However, she didn’t get many opportunities to keep herself hydrated because of the nature of the broadcast and was unable to drink water until much later in the program.

As Sinha carried on with the news, her condition worsened, leading to her blackout during a segment covering the heatwave. She described how she gradually lost vision while struggling to maintain composure during the broadcast.

“My speech started slurring, and ultimately I could see the teleprompter fade away,” Sinha said.

Quoting officials, an India Today report said heatwave conditions will prevail in South and North 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Bardhaman, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Purulia, Jhargram, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Bankura districts.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), “severe heatwave” conditions are likely in Odisha’s isolated pockets on Friday and in Gangetic West Bengal until April 22.

On Friday, maximum temperatures fluctuated between 42-44°C across regions in Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Rayalaseema, as well as some parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, north Madhya Pradesh, and Gangetic West Bengal.

Odisha reported its first death due to sunstroke on April 15, reported PTI.

Laxmikanta Sahu (62), a resident of Maheshpur in Balasore district, succumbed to sunstroke, news agency PTI cited an official from the Special Relief Commissioner’s office.
