KOCHI: The demolition of the second bay of the North Railway overbridge (RoB) will begin on Thursday. The demolition has been postponed for more than a week owing to the delay in repairing the Chittoor-Pachalam Road through which the traffic is to be diverted.The demolition of the second bay is expected to take 15-20 days. Meanwhile, the Metro-rail Limited has not received the sanction from the Railways for demolition of the portion that falls immediately above the railway crossing. “The portion above the railway tracks of the first bay is also left to be demolished. Both will be demolished together as soon as the sanction is granted by the Railways. The demolition of this part involves processes including the cutting of one of the railway power lines,” said the project executor of the Padmaja Specialities who has undertaken the demolition work.On Thursday, preparatory works for the demolition along with work on hand railings and core-cutting will be taken up during the day time. Lifting and transportation of the debris will be done in the night. The remaining work on the Pachalam and Chittor Roads will also be taken up in the night. “Bitumen concrete has to be laid out in certain portions which would take about four nights. It will not affect the traffic. The work has been delayed mainly owing to the rain. We need dry days for the work to be completed,” Kerala State Construction Corporation regional manager P P Jose said.
