New Delhi: Two people died and five others were injured in a clash between Tihar jail inmates in the national capital on Tuesday.

The clash took place inside a jail van while the inmates were being taken from Rohini Court to Tihar jail.

The incident was reported around 4:30 PM. The two police officials escorting the inmates did not stop the vehicle when they saw the prisoners fighting and directly took the van towards Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital in outer Delhi's Mongolpuri area, police said.

"When the prisoners were rushed to the hospital, two of them -- identified as Paras Goldy and Pradip Bhola -- were declared dead on arrival," said a senior police official.

The van was carrying nine inmates divided into two groups of seven and two members each.

A case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC has been registered at the Mongolpuri police station, the official added.
