The Defence Ministry on Friday approved a proposal to acquire nine maritime surveillance aircraft for the Indian Navy and six maritime patrol aircraft for the Indian Coast Guard.
The 15 maritime patrol planes would be built upon the “Made in India” C-295 transport aircraft. The overall value of these projects is estimated to be around Rs 29,000 crore, news agency ANI reported citing its defence sources.

The transport aircraft will undergo modifications, equipped with essential radars and sensors, to transform into a maritime patrol plane under the purview of the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS), reported ANI.
The ministry on Friday granted the acquisition of military hardware worth Rs 84,560 crore, which includes multi-mission maritime aircraft, aiming to enhance the overall combat capabilities of the armed forces. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, gave a green signal to these procurement proposals.
