Death of mother, newborn sparks tension

SANGAREDDY: The death of a mother and her newborn baby sparked tension at the Tekmal Government Hospital on Friday. Relatives of Chilvera Kishtamma (23) damaged the furniture at the hospital and staged a dharna alleging that the negligence of the doctors has claimed the life of the woman and her newborn baby. Kishtamma of Kusangi village got admitted  in Tekmal hospital.Kishtamma who developed pains at around 11 pm was administered an injection by ASM Ganga Lakshmi. Kishtamma gave birth to a baby boy around 3.30 a.m with the umbilical cord around its neck.The ASM immediately called up 108 service at Jogipet as the staff  felt that the mother and child needed better medicare. But the EMRI staff expressed their helplessness to come as the vehicle did not have a headlight. Then she called up the 108 service at Medak, but there was no response from them. Fearing that time was running out Kishtamma’s relatives pleaded the ASM to call up the doctor, but the ASM told them that she cannot disturb the doctor at 4 a.m and asked them to shift the baby to Medak hospital. The hapless relatives shifted the baby to the Medak hospital but the doctors pronounced as brought death. Meanwhile, the condition of Kishtamma also deteriorated and was shifted to the Medak Hospital, but she also died.
