VELLORE: The Tamilnadu Vivasayigal Sangam has urged the state government to provide adequate compensation and relief measures to the farmers whose lands were damaged by the recent cyclone ‘Thane’ across the state. A resolution was adopted at the state executive council meeting held here on Wednesday, chaired by the state president professor S A Chinnasamy. The resolution urged the State government to provide insurance cover for crops and extend interest-free loans to the affected farmers. They also urged the Central government to initiate measures to eliminate fertilizer shortage and asked the state government to include farm based activities in the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme .
