CHENNAI: Executing CM J Jayalalithaa’s direction to make Chennai a garbage-free city, the Chennai Corporation has revised the route map for each ward under which all interior and main roads will be covered by compactor vehicles and tricycles. According to sources, under the new system, the civic body’s top official would be able to monitor the whole conservancy operations of the wards maintained by the civic body at the click of a mouse. “We have introduced an SMS reporting system, where field officials from every ward and zone could send messages to the civic body’s common number that is attached to a computer,” said an official. The civic body has decided to procure 1,200 stainless steel bins and 75 heavy compactor vehicles to intensify garbage collection in every part of the expanded Chennai city.
