Congress Vadodara candidate Mistry arrested for vandalism, released on bail
Earlier in the day, Madhusudan Mistry said that he did not regret anything that he did and would in fact keep the fight on.

New Delhi: Congress's Vadodara candidate Madhusudan Mistry and 36 other party workers who were arrested by Gujarat Police on charges of vandalism were released on bail on Thursday evening.

Madhusudan Mistry, who has challenged BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was earlier in the day detained along with 100 other party workers on the same charges.

The Congress leader and his supporters were campaigning in Vadodara when the party workers allegedly started tearing up Modi's posters and replaced them with that of Mistry's.

Defending himself and the party workers, Mistry told CNN-IBN that the authorities had shown a bias against him by allocating all the advertisement kiosks on the city roads to BJP. He said that the Congress was not being given equal space for putting up posters in Vadodara by the local civic body.

He alleged that the Gujarat Election Commission and local bodies were hand-in-glove with the BJP and its PM nominee Narendra Modi. "We had told EC that if we will not be given equal space, then we would have to put up our posters atop those of Modi's."

Mistry added that he did not regret anything that he did and would in fact keep the fight on. He said, "I will not surrender to the bureaucracy here."

When asked if the way he meted out his protest against the administration was correct, Mistry said, "I don't care. We wanted to prove our point. Will decide future course of action after meeting party workers."

The senior party leader said that his opponent was not more than a Lok Sabha candidate for him.

Mistry is the general secretary of AICC and party candidate from Vadodara. He has played a major role in strategising for the Lok Sabha polls.
