The minister exhorted all parties to enforce moral code of conduct.

Patna: Congress leader and Union Minister of State for Communications Dr Shakeel Ahmed has asked the Election Commission (EC) to discharge its duties with "full transparency".

Secular Democratic Front (SDF) - comrpising RJD, Congress, NCP - leaders had alleged that EC is prejudiced against their candidates.

Arguing that the RJD candidate from Jamui, Vijay Prakash was not guilty of carrying firearms, liquor and cash till the court gave its verdict, Dr Ahmed said the EC should hold discussions with those who were leveling allegations against him.

"The Election Commission is a constitutional body and any decision should not be viewed with suspicion," he said.

He said the RJD or any other party should be given a hearing by the EC so that no doubts are raised on its impartiality.

To a query on the Congress candidates having criminal antecedents, Dr Ahmed said his party should not be singled out on this count.

He exhorted all political parties to enforce moral code of conduct on their own for combating such menace.

"If the Congress takes a lead in it (enforcing moral code of conduct)", then all political parties should also tackle the issue.

On LJP chief and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan?s demand for installation of a Muslim as the chief minister of Bihar, Dr Ahmed said that Paswan?s insistence for a Muslim CM would ultimately 'change the direction' of struggle launched against communal forces.

However, Muslims occupied posts of Chief Ministers in several Congress ruled states, he added.

What's your reaction?
