New Delhi: BJP on Tuesday lashed out at the Congress for not opening a dialogue with Opposition parties to arrive at a consensus in choosing a candidate for the Presidential poll.

"Lot of compromises and lot of underhand agreements are taking place. If you see the comment of BSP to support Congress candidate in the coming Presidential election and the other things happening, these are not in the interest of dignity of the top constitutional post of the country", BJP Vice President Muktar Abbas Naqvi said.

"Congress is searching for Sonia-loyalist President for the country. Of course, the Opposition, particularly NDA wants nation loyalist President of India", he added.

Pointing out that it was ideal to reach unanimity on selection of a candidate for the top post, he charged that Congress was not interested in it.

Till today, barring an appeal by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to NDA to support UPA nominee, Congress has not talked to any NDA leader, Naqvi pointed out.

Remaining non-commital on whether NDA would field a candidate against UPA, he said top leaders of NDA will meet in Delhi on Wednesday to discuss the issue.

Recalling the consensus the NDA had evolved in the last Presidential election, which ensured unanimous election of A P J Abdul Kalam, Naqvi, pointing to the moves by Congress, remarked "the face of Congress is completely exposed".

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, whose party has a significant share of votes in the Presidential election, has declared her support to the UPA nominee.
