Gandhinagar: A war of words on Monday broke out between ruling BJP and opposition Congress over the absence of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the Assembly.
During the discussion on budgetary allocations, Leader of the Opposition, Shaktisinh Gohil commented that Modi was never seen in the House except for the question and answer session.
He said that it had been a tradition that when the Leader of the Opposition speaks, the leader of the ruling party remains present.
"It would be better to sit here and watch the proceedings rather than watching through the CCTV footages," Gohil remarked sarcastically.
To this, state Urban Development minister Nitin Patel and Agriculture Minister Dilip Sanghni raised objection and requested the Speaker to restrict Gohil from making such comments on Modi.
When Gohil did not stop, Patel raised a point of order to get the comments expunged. He further said that there was no rule which said that a member should sit all the time in the Assembly.
The Speaker, however, said that this was not a matter of point of order, and asked Gohil not to make any more comments on the chief minister.
