In a shocking incident, at least three people were injured after a leopard attacked them in the South Forest Division Range in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol area.

The incident took place on Sunday in the riverside village of Khitauli when a group of picnickers reportedly teased and instigated the big cat.

The victims, two of them with severe head injuries, were taken to a hospital of treatment. A video of the incident is doing rounds the corner among the netizens on social media.

A 30-second video clip, which was shot by one of the victims, showed the leopard lurking in the bushes when the group started calling out the wild cat, screaming ‘aajaa, aajaa‘ (come here, come here).

Within seconds the laughter and fun-filled picnic turned into horror when the angry leopard pounced. The big cat attacked two people and then dragged another person to the ground, trying to rip into him. The group of panic-stricken picnickers were then heard screaming ‘bhaag‘ (run) in the video.

The injured have been identified as Nitin Samdariya, an ASI with Shahdol police, Akash Kushwaha, and Nandini Singh. All of them are residents of Shahdol town, Moneycontrol reported.

“The woman sustained severe injuries as the leopard dug its claws into her head,” reported Bhupendra Mani Pandey, the in-charge of Sohagpur police station. The swift response of law enforcement was crucial in ensuring that the victims received immediate medical attention.

According to Badshah Rawat, sub-divisional forest officer, Shahdol, an advisory was issued recently requesting people to not venture into the forest.

“Another incident of a tiger attack had taken place in the area recently, following which the advisory was issued. We have asked officials to alert villagers and other people not to go into the forests. A control room has also been set up to help people in such incidents,” he told NDTV.

Last week in another incident, a seven-year-old boy was killed in a leopard attack in Pune. The incident occurred on Friday in Mandavgan Pharata village when Vansh Rajkumar Singh was near a sugarcane field.

“On Friday night, Vansh left the house after his parents got into a fight. He walked towards a sugarcane field where a leopard fatally attacked him. The factory manager informed the police about the attack,” said the forest official.
