The Madras High Court has pulled up officials of the Chennai Metropolitan Ddevelopment Authority (CMDA) and the Chennai Corporation for allowing unauthorised constructions in the city.
“It was only because of the inaction and negligence on the part of these officials and also due to extraneous considerations, all unauthorised and illegal constructions were being put up in the city,” the First Bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice TS Sivagnanam said.
The Bench directed the CMDA and the Corporation to demolish the illegal and unauthorised constructions put up by both the petitioner and the respondent on 11th Avenue in Ashok Nagar, within two weeks and file a report.
A Jayaraman filed a writ petition for a direction to the CMDA and the Corporation to take action against Mangala Ramakrishnan for putting up an illegal and unauthorised construction at 52/3 in the 11th Avenue, without obtaining the no-objection certificate and planning permission.
He alleged that Mangala had encroached upon the common area by putting up two rooms measuring 500 sq.ft in the ground floor, about 1,000 sq.ft in the first floor and 300 sq.ft in the sceond floor.
