To add colour to the ‘Piravom boat race 2012’, the event management committee has arranged a helicopter ride for the public.
People will get a chance to fly at a height of 500 to 700 ft. This will help them watch the Muvattupuzha river, where the boat race is arranged, before the start of the race.
This is as part of our initiatives to revive the local boat race after a gap of 15 years, said Sabhu K Jacob, Piravom panchayat president.
“This would be a unique experience to the people as they get an opportunity to fly in their panchayat. We had earlier planned to shower flowers from the helicopter during the inauguration of the boat race. But later we had decided to include helicopter ride for the public. It is arranged from 8 am to 2 pm before the event. The public has already started to inquire about the helicopter ride and we hope it will be a success,” he said.
Sunil Narayanan, owner of Chipsan Aviation, said that a five-seater Eurocopter AS350 B3 will be used for the purpose.
“The chopper can accommodate five passengers at a time. It will cost Rs 3000 per head to take the helicopter ride. The passengers will be given instructions about the safety measures that need to be followed for the trip,” he said Union Minister of State K V Thomas will inaugurate the race on September 7.
Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob will preside over the function.
K Karunakaran Memorial and M C Jacob memorial trophies will be presented to the winners and runnersup respectively. Actors Lalu Alex and Kunchacko Boban will be present on the occasion.
