Beijing: Senior Chinese leaders led by President Hu Jintao on Thursday ended their annual brainstorming session and mapped out a stable and sustainable growth path for the booming economy in 2007.

The three-day 2006 Central Economic Work Conference closed in Beijing on Thursday, hammering out major economic strategies and policies for 2007.

Hu and Premier Wen Jiabao delivered speeches at the three-day conference, the official Xinhua news agency reported without providing details.

The annual in-camera event, initiated more than a decade ago, has served as a crucial mechanism for the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee to run the Chinese economy.

In a prelude or warming-up of the conference, the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee convened a meeting last week, saying 2007 is a crucial year for China's development and reform.

The meeting stressed that the nation should try to realise a healthy and fast economic growth, so as to create a sound environment for the 17th CPC National Congress, which will elect news leadership.

China's economy grew 10.7 per cent in the first three quarters, with the profit of industrial enterprises surging 30.1 per cent over the first 10 months.

The consumer prices only edged up 1.3 per cent while fiscal revenue jumped 25.1 per cent to 3.34 trillion yuan (423 billion US dollars).
