Guntur: IBNlive spoke to Rajalakshmi, grandmother of the 23-year-old software professional Swati Parachuri, who was killed in a blast on the Bangalore-Guwahati Express at Chennai Central station on Thursday morning.
Swati was going home to Guntur in Andhra Pradesh. Her shocked parents have already left for Chennai to bring back her body.
An inconsolable Rajalakshmi remembers her bright grand-daughter who died young in a terror attack:
"Swati had called me last evening before she took the train. She was living in Bangalore. She was working with the TCS as a software programmer. She was a very bright girl, very good at studies and meticulous.
"She completed her education with the help of scholarships and did B.Tech in Electronics and Computer Sciences. We are an ordinary middle class family and she was our hope. She got the job immediately after her graduation. It was a great moment of joy for all of us.
"She left for Bangalore and joined the TCS sometime in December last year. She was happy there. She liked Bangalore, its people and her job. She wanted to make it big in her life. She would call us almost everyday.
"Swati got her first salary in January and she was on cloud nine. She was missing home and had been planning a visit for the past two months.
"Since, it is summer season, getting a confirmed train ticket was tough. She managed a ticker under 'Tatkal' scheme on the ill-fated train. She was supposed to reach Guntur by late afternoon. We had prepared a lot of things for her.
"What has happened is beyond our imagination. We are shattered. How could God take away our child in this manner? What was her fault? Why did they kill her? She was an innocent passenger.
"I really don't know what is happening. The light has gone out."
