Check-posts under cops eye for Republic Day

VELLORE: In view of Republic Day on January 26, surveillance has been intensified at important locations in the district, such as old and new bus stands in Vellore, Vellore Fort and Golden Temple. Metal detectors and other advanced equipments to identify explosives are being utilised at the Jolarpet, Katpadi and Arakkonam junctions. Railway police, local police and CRPF personnel are involved in surveillance activities at railway stations. Over 2,800 cases have been booked on drunken drivers and those not following road rules this week.Vellore SP Kayalvizhi visited TN-AP border areas like Kilithanpattarai, Ponnai and Gudiyatham on Saturday. Security has been tightened at check posts in border areas and vehicles are allowed into the state only after proper checking and inspection.Inspection is being conducted in lodges in the district and enquiries on the details of the inmates and newcomers are made.
