BANGALORE: Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa was felicitated by the BJP Kissan Morcha, Karnataka, at the Southern States’ Paddy Growers Conference on Friday. The felicitation was in recognition of his farmerfriendly moves when he was the CM.Stressing the importance of adopting farmer-friendly measures, Yeddyurappa said, “If the Centre wants to prosper and wants India to be developed, they will have to present a separate agriculture budget with the railway budget. They must also look at providing loans at 1 per cent interest to all farmers.”He stated that around 20 lakh farmers in the state did not have access to loan facilities from banks. He also lauded the Global Agribusiness Meet held recently as a farmer-friendly measure.“We have signed 42 MoUs of business worth Rs 1.10 lakh crore,” he said.Yeddyurappa also urged the Central government to increase the minimum support price for paddy to at least Rs 1,500 per quintal.Under his rule, the state government was also providing Rs 250 additional benefit to the farmer along with the Rs 1,080 being provided by the Central government, he claimed.Praising Yeddyurappa’s schemes for farmers, Om Prakash Dhankar, National President of the BJP Kissan Morcha said, “He was the first one to introduce a special agriculture budget and 1% interest for farmers of the State. We demand that the centre adopt the same polices in all the states.”He also lashed out at Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj for not having cleared the Anti -cow Slaughter Bill.“He is from Haryana like me, from a Brahmin family and yet he just toed Sonia Gandhi’s line and refused the bill,” said a visibly frustrated Dhankar.
