London: Britain has issued a travel advisory to India asking travellers to the country to be 'vigilant' following the serial blasts in Mumbai and the grenade attacks in Srinagar.
It advised against all travel to or through rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir, other than Ladakh, and all but essential travel by air to Srinagar.
"There have also been terrorist attacks elsewhere in India, including in major cities. You should be vigilant in all parts of India," it said.
The advisory said the British Deputy High commission in Mumbai is liaising with the local authorities and hospitals to see if any British nationals have been caught up in the blasts.
Over 600,000 British tourists visit India every year.
During his weekly House of Commons question session, British Prime Minister Tony Blair on Wednesday condemned the Mumbai bomb blasts as "utterly brutal and shameful".
He said Britain's message to the people of India is that "we stand with them in solidarity to defeat terrorism wherever it exists."
Commonwealth Secretary General Don McKinnon also condemned the attacks.
In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, McKinnon said, "The Commonwealth stands alongside the people of India in the wake of the appalling loss of life in India's commercial capital on Tuesday."
"These dreadful events once again remind us that the international community needs to stand together and remain resolute in fighting terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, wherever it exists," he wrote.
"Let me assure you of the Commonwealth's shared sense of concern and unwavering solidarity with you and your government at this time. May I also convey the heartful condolences of all Commonwealth governments and myself personally to all those who have been injured, bereaved or otherwise affected by Tuesday's events," he concluded.
