London: British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who has in the past been criticised for making private use of his contacts in the world of entertainment, has revealed that he is paying an undisclosed amount for spending the New Year at the Miami Beach home of the Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb.
A Downing Street spokesperson in London said Blair, 53, his wife Cherie and some of their four children were staying at the multi-million dollar mansion on the basis of a "private commercial arrangement".
In the past, the Blairs have made donations to charity in lieu of payment for holidaying at the Barbados home of singer Cliff Richard.
But his spokesperson could not say whether a charitable donation was being made on this occasion.
He also did not specify how much money is being paid or to whom.
Gibb was seen in public with Blair at a Labour Party rally in May 2005, ahead of the general election, where Blair described the singer as one of his heroes.
Blair's New Year holiday began amid a blaze of publicity when the British Airways (BA) plane carrying him overran the main runway shortly after landing at Miami International Airport late on Tuesday.
