Khanna said peace was imperative for development-related work in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu: BJP on Saturday said it will send a team of its leaders from Jammu and Kashmir to New Delhi to apprise the Union government and the party's central leadership about the situation in the state and to take the "peace process" forward.

"We will send a team to discuss the issue with the Centre and the party's central leadership so that the peace process initiated after the formation of this government gains pace," state party president Sat Sharma told reporters here.

Senior leaders of the party held a core-group meeting, attended by BJP national vice president and in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir Avinash Rai Khanna, to discuss the prevailing situation in the state.

Following the meeting, Sharma said that the party was "concerned" about the situation in the state. "Our general secretaries were monitoring the situation," he said.

He said some people were trying to vitiate the atmosphere in Jammu and given the seriousness of the issue, the party leaders will go to Delhi and discuss the issue with the cenral leadership of the party and the Union government.

Khanna said peace was imperative for development-related work in Jammu and Kashmir.

"After the PDP and BJP government came into power, new avenues for development opened in Jammu and Kashmir and until and unless peace is restored, development will not happen. So my appeal to all is to help restore peace," he said.

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters Health Minister Bali Bhagat said violence and talks cannot go together. "First peace has to be restored, terrorism and talks cannot go hand in hand."
