KOPPAL: Akin to the previous bypolls in the state, BJP’s Operation Lotus worked in Koppal too with party candidate Sanganna Karadi’s victory on Thursday. Karadi polled 60,405 votes and defeated his nearest rival Basavaraj Hitnal of Congress by 12,488 votes. Hitnal polled 47,917 votes and JD(S) candidate Pradeepagouda Malipatil secure 20,719. Karadi maintained a lead in almost all the 15 rounds of counting. All the remaining 11 contestants lost the deposit.Karadi’s victory marks the first-ever victory for the BJP in the constituency.Karadi vowed to strive for the comprehensive development of the constituency, while Congress and JD(S) candidates made charges of misuse of official machinery and flow of money.
