BJP attacks Bihar government for not providing land to 20,000 Mahadalits
The opposition leader said that while 2.32 lakh beneficiaries had been alloted land under the scheme, the remaining 20,000 continued to be deprived.

Patna: Opposition BJP on Tuesday made a scathing attack at the Nitish Kumar government for failing to provide land to about 20,000 landless Mahadalits (poorest among Dalits) even after five years of the launch of a scheme brought out for this purpose.

Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Nand Kishore Yadav led the party attack on state government over the matter during zero hour, following which BJP members trooped into the well of the House and started shouting anti-government slogans.

Amid the din, Speaker Uday Narayan Choudhary adjourned the House till 2 PM.

Later, Yadav told reporters in his chamber that the state government had formulated a policy to provide 3 decimal land to landless mahadalits in 2009-10 and had idenfied 2.52 lakh beneficiaries under the scheme. The land was increased to 5 decimal by a cabinet order in January 6 this year by former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.

The opposition leader said that while 2.32 lakh beneficiaries had been alloted land under the scheme, the remaining 20,000 continued to be deprived. He alleged that the Nitish Kumar government was deliberately delaying providing land to left out mahadalits so that landless people of other categories did not raise banner of revolt with state Assembly poll round the corner.

Yadav said at subsequent stage the government had ordered to include landless population of Schedules caste, Schedule Tribe, Backward castes and Extremely Backward Castes (EBCs), but still the survey to identify such beneficiaries have not begun.
