A view of the contentious Mullaperiyar Dam from the sky. The dam is located at a height of 881 metres above the sea level in Thekkadi, Idukki district, Kerala. Though the dam is located inside Kerala, it is operated on a lease by Tamil Nadu. The Periyar National Park forms the area around the dam's reservoir.
