Patna: Bihar engineers protesting against the alleged murder of one colleagues have postponed their proposed indefinite statewide strike from Thursday.
Bihar Engineering Services Coordination Committee (BESCC) members decided to defer their strike until July 2 following assurance of a CBI probe and a promise by Road Construction Department Chief Secretary RK Singh to provide financial help to the Sitamarhi engineer Yogendra Pandey's family.
Over 20,000 engineers employed with Bihar Government have been abstaining from work for the last three days to protest against Pandey's death.
The strike was averted on Wednesday after a meeting between the government and the engineers' representatives. Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah and Singh represented the government.
Pandey died after falling from the third floor of the Sitamarhi Collectorate on June 18 under mysterious conditions.
Even though police claim that a suicide note was found on Pandey's body but his family and colleagues claim that he was pushed from the third floor of the building and say he had been threatened and had been seeking security cover.
