New Delhi: After an Uttar Pradesh court ruled that Amitabh Bachchan is not a farmer and hence he has no right to buy farmland in the state, another land deal of his in Maharashtra is now turning into a crisis.
Bachchan had justified the purchase of eight hectare land at Lonavala on the grounds of him being a farmer in UP.
The government has launched an investigation and plan to lodge a cheating case against Bachchan if the allegation is proved right.
This eight-hectare land in Lonavala in Pune is the cause for superstar Amitabh Bachchan’s latest trouble. Bachchan had brought the land in 2000 despite laws in the state that prevent non-farmers from buying agricultural land.
The state government asked him to prove his farmer status following, which Amitabh produced documents, which showed that he owned agricultural land in Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh. But the recent court order from UP now means that Bachchan may lose his land and also charged with a cheating case.
Revenue Minister Narayan Rane said, “Since he is not a farmer the government can take away his land and file a case of forgery against him.”
So it is not just Mayawati who is after Bachchan. In fact it is a matter of time before the investigations into the Pune land deal begin.
“Once we get the papers we will examine those and investigate,” Pune Collectorate Officer Bhanudas Gaikwad said.
This latest controversy is also being seen as a fall out of Amitabh Bachchan’s proximity to the Samajwadi Party and animosity towards the Congress.
Bachchan has already faced various enquiries from the Income Tax Department in the past and this latest land deal controversy is only expected to fuel more trouble for the aging superstar.
When it comes to the Bachchans, Congress has seldom shown mercy.
