The Vigilance and Enforcement officials seized bengal gram worth Rs 4 crore illegally stored at a private warehouse in Dhanapur village in Adoni mandal on Monday night.
On a tip-off, the officials raided the Sri Ganesh Rural warehouse, owned by one Dattatreya Reddy, and found that none of the farmers’ names in its record was genuine. The trader had stacked the bengal gram in the name of fictitious farmers. They also recovered blank applications signed by the village revenue officer. The trader had used such forms in procuring the gram as it is mandatory for any farmer to get the VRO’s approval. According to the norms, no one should stock their produce in warehouse other than farmers.
In all 16,356 bags (each bag has 60 kg of bengal gram) were seized along with records in the warehouse.
