BANGALORE: Although the city corporation had decided to demolish illegal constructions at Mantri Mall on Wednesday, it soon halted the operations as the builders requested for more time to set things right themselves.
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner Siddaiah had announced that illegal deviations at Mantri Mall, in Malleswaram, would be demolished on Wednesday.Under the supervision of BBMP Engineering Chief B T Ramesh, the officials demolished only the retaining wall of the illegal ramp. The whole ramp was scheduled to be demolished.

When the demolition started, the builders requested that it be stopped and they be given 45 days to set the anomaly right. They contended that outright demolition would severely damage the expensive wiring under the ramp and it needs to be removed carefully and scientifically to avoid more loss.

On behalf of the builders, VicePresident (Liaison), Kiran Kumar, said Wednesday's demolition meant that they had suffered a loss to the tune of Rs 2 crore.

The BBMP Commissioner informed that earlier too the builders had sought some time to dismantle the illegal ramp. He said it was the builders' noncompliance that had led to Wednesday's demolition.
