The Congress in Arunachal Pradesh has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi alleging that the BJP leader has breached the Model Code of Conduct "threatening" Chief Minister Nabam Tuki at an election rally in Itanagar in March.

A delegation of state Congress submitted a complaint with the state's chief electoral officer on Wednesday and demanded Modi's apology in this connection, party sources informed at Itanagar on Thursday.

Modi, during a rally here on March 31, had said that Tuki would face various challenges after May 16 as there would be no one in Delhi to help him.

"Such unwarranted threat by Modi to a chief minister reflects sick mentality aimed at divisive politics besides violation of the Model Code of Conduct," the complaint stated.

"His undemocratic and unethical remarks to equate legislators with vegetables are really unfortunate and highly condemnable. Such remark is a slap on the face of people of Arunachal who have unanimously elected leaders unopposed," it said.

"The sentiments of Arunachalees have been deeply wounded by such ill remarks of Modi and he must tender apology for disgracing democratically elected leaders," the party said in the complaint and demanded the Commission to initiate an appropriate action, party sources added.
