The gunbattle began on Saturday night near the Line of Control when the Army challenged a group of infiltrating terrorists.

Srinagar: The Army on Sunday foiled two infiltration bids in Jammu and Kashmir. The security forces eliminated two terrorists in the Keran sector near the Line of Control.

In another encounter, one soldier was killed and 2 others were injured in a gunbattle between security forces and terrorists in Kupwara.

The gunbattle started Saturday night near the LoC after the Army engaged the terrorists who infiltrated from the Pakistan side of the LoC.

"One jawan made the supreme sacrifice while two others were injured in the operation against militants in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district," an Army official said.

The gunbattle is still on.

The incident took place just days after Pakistani terrorist Mohammad Naved alias Usman Khan was arrested in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur.

On August 3, Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist Usman, along with his accomplice Momin, attacked a Border Security Force convoy killing two personnel and injuring eight others in Udhampur. While Momin was killed in the gunbattle, Usman fled into the forests after taking three hostages. He was soon surrounded by a team of BSF and Army soldiers and a brief gunbattle followed. He was overpowered by his hostages and captured.
