CHENNAI: Making a clarion call for all trade unions, All India Trade Union Congress national general secretary Gurudas Dasgupta declared that the 14th all India strike called by a league of Central trade unions will be a milestone in history.Gurudas Dasgupta, who is also a CPI MP, said here on Saturday that the Central TUs had come together as the livelihood of the working class was at stake.“Centre is least bothered about the labours’ plight, farmers’ suicide, unemployed youth’s plight, and the list extends as the government continues total boycott of all TUs in the country. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seldom gets time to talk to Trade Unions, but has time for corporate houses”, he said.“We should learn on February 28 that the nation including Tamil Nadu had come to a standstill owing to the strike,” he said.Bharatiya Mazdoor Sabha general secretary Baijnath Rai appealed to Anna Tozhil Sangam to take part in the strike to express solidarity with other trade unions. Cutting across party lines, the solidarity of the labours should be expressed, the leader suggested.
