New Delhi: Bollywood's favourite hero Akshay Kumar aka Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia turned 41 on Tuesday September 9. Raised in a middle class home, he went to Bangkok to learn martial arts in the late '80s and started working as a chef there.
When he returned to Mumbai, he started teaching martial arts and was offered a modelling assignment by one of his students who happened to be a photographer. Being paid Rs 5,000 for a two hour project as opposed to his Rs 4,000 salary a month got him to consider modelling seriously.
He then entered films in 1991 with the film Saugandh, which went unnoticed. However, he shot to fame during the early '90s with a barrage of Khiladi movies with which he was labelled as the new action hero of Bollywood.
Akshay's love life was always under the media scanner as he has been linked with several actresses over the years. He was engaged to actress Raveen Tandon in mid '90s, rumours of both being romantically linked started after they starred in the film Mohra.

During the years he has also been linked to other actresses namely, Pooja Batra, Shilpa Shetty and Rekha. He married Twinkle Khanna — the daughter of veteran actor Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia — on January 14 2001. The two had a son on September 15 2002, they named him Arav.
Akshay has been linked to actress Priyanka Chopra after his wedding, but has denied the rumours.
The year 2007 proved to be a very successful one for the actor as his pairing with actress Katrina Kaif was highly appreciated by the audience.
The two were first paired together in Humko Diwana Kar Gaye which became a hit. Akshay and Katrina have delivered several hits together namely, Namastey London, Welcome, and the most recent Singh is Kinng which had a record opening in India and abroad.
Akshay has now been named Kinng Khiladi by the Indian media for his recent success and is now the highest paid actor in Bollywood.
