Actor Jagathys condition improving: Doctors

KOZHIKODE: Actor Jagathy Sreekumar, who was admitted to the Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital here after a road accident, has overcome the critical condition, doctors attending on him said on Monday.“There is a commendable change in the condition of Jagathy,” said Dr P P Venugopal, senior consultant and head of the department Emergency Medicine, MIMS Hospital.“The actor is responding to pain and verbal stimulus during a sedation-free interval. He continues to be on ventilator and his current ventilatory parameters are satisfactory. He will be taken out from the ventilator after the surgeries for correction of the right femur and fractured right arm on Tuesday,” said Dr Venugopal.“Tuesday’s orthopaedic surgeries are major operations and the hospital is making all efforts to contain any complications as the surgeries may lead to blood loss. A team of doctors led by orthopaedic surgeon Dr George Abraham will perform the surgery. Before the multiple bone surgeries, the doctors examined Jagathy on Monday,” added Dr Venugopal.According to the medical bulletin published by the hospital on Monday, the 61-year-old actor’s neurological status has to be re-assessed frequently and final functional status of brain can only be understood with time. His post operative abdominal condition is satisfactory. BP is stable and his urine output is adequate.He continues to be on ventilator and his current ventilatory parameters are satisfactory, added the medical bulletin.Actors Mammootty, Siddhique, Kalabhavan Mani, Saikumar, Bindhu Panicker, Ministers Shibu Baby John and A P Anilkumar and Chief Whip P C George visited the Hospital on Monday.Jagathy’s wife Shobha, son Rajkumar and daughter Parvathy are with the actor at the hospital. Only close relatives are allowed to the Intensive Care Unit where the actor has been admitted.Jagathy’s driver P P Anilkumar, who suffered serious injuries on leg, has been shifted to the room from ICU on Monday. Hospital authorities said that he has also overcome critical conditions.
