New Delhi: Negative roles are not a new thing for Shah Rukh Khan. In fact, Shah Rukh's career as a film star has shaped up due to the anti-hero characters he had played in the early 90s.
'Baazigar', 'Darr', and 'Anjaam' established Khan as someone who could play the role of passionate lover with ease and perfection. 'Ram Jaane' and 'Duplicate' had more of villainous characters but Shah Rukh made those roles appear like heroes.
'Josh' was his last negative role before 'Don: The Chase Begins Again' but there was a gap of six years between both the films which gave Shah Rukh the time for coming up with a suave anti-hero.
'Don' was completely distinguished from Khan's earlier films and he was no more dependent on stretched neck or trembling cheeks. In addition to it, he was also trying to avoid slurring and stammering.
Despite some silly gestures like taking out the cigarette from one of his bodyguard's mouth in a song, Khan looked more or less in command.
Till 'Don', he had also mastered the art of remaining Shah Rukh irrespective of the demand of the character. It hampered films but helped him in remaining the superstar.
Farhan Akhtar should also be praised for handling the superstar in a tactful manner. 'Don' was bound to invite comparisons between Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan and the pressure could have made Khan to try extra hard for the role. This extra effort could have led him to look like something entirely different from an underworld boss.
A flat faced dialogue delivery is not meant for Shah Rukh Khan as he has the habit of twitching his eyebrows in close up shots but 'Don' featured very little of this habit.
The promos of 'Don 2' are again showcasing the typical King Khan style of twisted lips but only the film will reveal whether he has done the same thing throughout the film or not.
Plus the director Farhan Akhtar has also become an actor in this gap and this experience can help him in stimulating the actor trapped inside the superstar's skin.
