CHENNAI: Motivating people to give back to society and making them realise that change is possible if individuals unite to work towards it, Nallor Vattam-Moonravadhu Shakthi, a Kodambakkam-based group, organised an oath taking function in the city on Sunday. Emphasising that it is the duty of every citizen to keep his city clean, a six-point resolution was adopted. It included mobilising people, students, welfare groups in every other street as well as in schools, hospitals and parks to work towards the development of respective areas; working to help reach government schemes to all; remaining self-disciplined for the city’s growth by obeying traffic rules, avoiding usage of plastic and non-littering of roads and dedicating at least four hours a week for community work among many others.“I spent 25 days inspecting many roadways to know why it couldn’t be kept clean and found that scavengers scatter and litter the garbage outside the bins, said Mayor Saidai Duraisamy at the function. He added that the corporation is working towards a system where the dust bins would be kept hidden from being misused. If all of us clean at least 10 feet from the entrance of our house, the entire road would be clean and that is the aim of this group, the Mayor said as he appreciated the efforts taken by the group.
