CHENNAI: Eight persons from Madhya Pradesh were held for allegedly stealing from shoppers at a popular mall in Anna Salai police limits on Saturday.Police said four families including children were caught after a girl in the gang attempted to steal a visitor’s wallet. The 11-year-old approached a shopper, Chinni of Villivakkam, for drinking water. The woman opened her bag to take out her water bottle when the girl allegedly flicked her wallet. The woman raised an alarm and the girl was caught and handed over to the police.Police, following information received from the girl, nabbed seven others of the gang--four elders Meena Sini (24), Ram Khali (35), Suman (30) and Halki (45) and three juveniles--who were waiting to board a train to Madhya Pradesh. They were staying in a mansion in Triplicane.Police sources said the children wore good clothes to mingle in the crowd, so that others did not suspect them. Police are on the lookout for two others.
