HYDERABAD: More than 78,596 seats remained vacant in both engineering and pharmacy colleges after allotment of seats in the first phase of counselling announced here on Sunday. Officials have announced that the second phase of web counselling will commence shortly but it is unlikely the number would come down. For the first phase of counselling, 1.34 lakh candidates attended the certificate verification process out of a total 2.12 lakh seats in the engineering stream. As many as 678 engineering colleges and 269 pharmacy colleges were made available on web options in the current academic year. Most students opted for Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) followed by Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) and Mechanical Engineering in the order of preference. Further, many students preferred urban engineering colleges than those located in rural areas. Announcing the seat allotment, the Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education officials said the classes for engineering students will commence from August 24 and candidates who have obtained seat in a particular branch should attend the classes.Officials said students can check the seat allotment on- www.apeamcet.nic.in furnishing details like registration no, hall ticket no, password and date of birth.
