38 held for gambling, cockfight

TIRUPUR: At least 38 people were arrested on charges of gambling and cockfight in raids here on Wednesday. Based on a tip-off, a team from the Mangalam Police conducted surprise inspection at Ramathal Thottam in Velayuthampalayam and found a group of people playing cards by betting money. Police arrested seven persons and seized `570 from them.  Similarly, 28 people were arrested during raids at Eragampatti near Kundadam for conducting cockfight by betting money. Four cocks and `10,500 in cash were seized. The Kangeyam Police also arrested three persons near old fort area at Kangeyam for conducting cockfight. Eight roosters and `300 in cash were seized.
