Three pilgrims were killed and eight others were injured after being caught in a landslide on their way to the Kedarnath shrine on Sunday morning.
According to the State Disaster Response Force, the pilgrims began their journey from Gaurikund early in the morning. Near the Chirbasa area on the Gaurikund-Kedarnath trekking route, a massive landslide struck them, claiming three lives on the spot.
The rescue team rushed to the spot and commenced the operation to help the survivors. The injured were rushed to the nearest hospital.
Among the deceased 2 belong to Maharashtra while one was from Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayad.
The deceased have been identify as Kishore Arun Parate (31) from
Nagpur, Maharashtra, Sunil Mahadev Kale (24) from Jalna, Maharashtra and
Anurag Bisht from Tilwara, Rudraprayag.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed grief over the incident and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.

Meanwhile, a fresh batch of 3,113 pilgrims, including 707 women, left a base camp here early Sunday to join the annual Amarnath pilgrimage in south Kashmir Himalayas, officials told PTI.
The 52-day yatra commenced from the twin routes of Pahalgam in Anantnag and Baltal in Ganderbal districts on June 29.
So far, nearly 3.90 lakh pilgrims have paid their obeisance at the 3,880-metre-high holy cave shrine, housing the naturally formed ice-shivlingam.
