New Delhi: A 23-year-old Congolese national was allegedly beaten to death in Delhi's Kishangarh area on Friday evening.

The incident took place around 11:45 PM when the man, MT Olivia had a heated argument with a group of three persons.

Following the argument, the group pounced on Olivia, and as he tried to escape, they chased him for around 20-25 metres and attacked him again with stones.

"A case of murder has been registered. We are checking CCTV footage to identify the accused," additional DCP (South) Nupur Prasad said.

The case is being probed from all angles including robbery and a possible racist attack on the African national.

Speaking to CNN-News18, a friend of the Congolese national said, "We went to buy smokes when this guy came and we had a spat. I first thought he wanted the cell phone. They started hitting him and he started bleeding. Nobody came to help us."

The Embassy of Congo has been informed about the incident. Olivia taught foreign languages at a private institute.

He was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police have detained a few locals and are questioning them.

The police said that they will get hold of the culprits soon. "It started with a verbal spat, then they started fighting. They hit him with a big stone and he started bleeding. We have independent witnesses. We caught one of the accused, identified the other two. We will get hold of them soon", police said.
