New Delhi: Thiruvanthapuram city is alls et to receive the film lovers as the 18th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) will begin tomorrow, December 7. The fest will end on December 13. About 211 films will be screened at about 12 theatres over these days. In the competition category the movies will only be from Asian, Latin American and African Countries. This time there are 14 films in the competition category.
At the inaugural function on Friday, Actor Shabana Azmi, Spanish writer and Director Carlos Saura and Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will be present. The opening film of the fest is Ana Arabia, directed by Amos Gitai, filmed in one sequence -shot of 85 minutes. It's about a moment in the life of a small community of outcasts, Jewsand Arabs who live together in a forgotten enclave at the border.
South-Korean Director Kim-Ki-Duk will also be present at the film festival.
Around 9,000 delegates will take part in the festival and films from 64 countries are going to be displayed.
Some of the sections of the movies include street films from Latin America, Samurai films from Japan, top angle Indian cinema section, Indian Cinema Now, Malayalam Cinema today.
Seven Nigerian films, curated sessions, tribute of Rituparna Ghosh movies like 'Memories In March', 'Chitrangada' and 'Satyanweshi' will be screened.
The jury consists of Arturo Ripstein, Aditya Assarat, Khalo Matabane, Gouthami and Peter Scarlet.
