BANGALORE: Soon the State would get 13 new 108 Ambulances. The State already has 517 such ambulances under 108 Emergency Ambulance Service. The service currently operates using the Geographic Information System (GIS) which guides them from the spot of incident to the ambulance location. “This service provides a map that helps in locating the incident spot prominently and then through the Automatic Vehicle Location system (AVLC), the operators at the call centre can locate the nearest ambulance and direct it to the spot. All new 13 ambulances will be equipped with these two technologies. This will help us make smart decisions and minimise problems,” said Marketing Head of 108 Ambulance Services S S Perveez. In three-and-a-half years, they have handled over 16 lakh cases attending 50,000 serious life and death cases, he claimed. In one month, the service, will decide whether Bangalore needs more ambulances. Currently, Bangalore has 58 ambulances, he noted.
