‘No State Matches Telangana’s Progress in Last 8 Yrs’: CM KCR Says on Formation Day, Centre Organises Event for 1st Time
KCR will complete eight years in office as Chief Minister on Thursday as he took oath on June 2, 2014, the day on which Telangana state came into existence

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao kickstarted the eighth anniversary of Telangana on Thursday by delivering a keynote address at Public Gardens, Hyderabad. The CM started his speech by saying that Telangana has achieved great success across sectors in the last eight years that no other state in the country has achieved in 75 years.

KCR completes eight years in office as Chief Minister on Thursday as he took oath on June 2, 2014, the day on which Telangana state came into existence.

Telangana was carved out of erstwhile unified Andhra Pradesh on this day, eight years back, after a massive people’s movement that lasted several decades.

Alleging that the Central government is conspiring to weaken the states financially, he said the Centre is shifting taxes in the form of cess to evade the constitutionally due share of the states from the taxes levied by the Centre. It is a known fact that the Centre is squandering millions of crores of rupees due to the states, he alleged, adding that the Centre is arbitrarily imposing various kinds of sanctions, undermining the economic freedom of the states.

KCR demanded that the Centre immediately reconsider and immediately lift the economic sanctions imposed on the states and stop any further violation of the rights of the states.

Telangana is losing Rs 5,000 crore every year as it refused to implement the “anti-farmers” power reforms of the Centre. In five years, the state lost Rs 25,000 crore, Rao said.

“As on date, the country is not having a common aim. The country is left high and dry to the wind. The country is drifting like a boat, which had no anchor. Even after 75 years of independence why we still have poverty?” he asked.

KCR’s Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Wednesday readied a eight-year progress report of the state, which said that many as 60.83 lakh farmers in kharif and 63 lakh farmers in rabi season are receiving Rythu Bandhu twice a year at Rs 5,000 per acre since 2018. The government has so far transferred Rs 50,447 crore into the bank accounts of farmers, the report said.

The Rythu Bima, a scheme benefitting 80,861 families, has coverage of 35.64 lakh farmers for whom the state government paid a premium of about Rs 14,000 crore to the LIC, as per the report.

After two years of muted celebrations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the day is set to be celebrated grandly this year.

The Centre will for the first time organise Telangana Formation Day celebrations here on Wednesday and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be the chief guest at the event.

The event will be organised by the Union Ministry of Culture at Dr Ambedkar International Centre here from 6 pm onwards, a statement from the culture ministry said. As part of the programme, popular singers from Telangana such as Mangli and Vedala Hemachandra will be performing.

The event will also witness performances from the school children of Haryana which is a paired state under ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. Folk dancers from Telangana and performances by artists from Kathak Kendra, Delhi will showcase the rich cultural heritage of the state, it added.

President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday greeted people of Telangana on its statehood day, and said the state has made commendable progress on development indicators and emerged as a hub of industries.

“Greetings to the people of Telangana on Statehood Day! Blessed with rich culture and heritage, Telangana has made commendable progress on development indicators and emerged as a hub for industries. I wish it continues to prosper & fulfil people’s aspirations,” Kovind tweeted.

rime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted people of Telangana on the state’s formation day, and said they are synonymous with hardwork and unparalleled dedication to national progress.

In a tweet Modi said, “Greetings to my sisters and brothers of Telangana on the state’s Formation Day. People of Telangana are synonymous with hardwork and unparalleled dedication to national progress. The culture of the state is world renowned. I pray for the well-being of the people of Telangana.”
