AVCHD, specially designed for camcorders and digital cameras to record HD videos, is a special file format that requires an AVCHD player. If you want to open it with another player on your Mac/PC or iPhone/iPad/Android etc, you may need to convert it to a format compatible with them. Using VLC Player, you can convert AVCHD files to MP4 in no time.
Open your VLC Media Player.
Click the Media button on the top left corner in VLC. Then click Convert/Save.
Use the Add button to add what you want to convert. Choose one or more files and then click Convert/Save.
Choose the output format MP4 from Profile. There are also other choices for specific devices like iPhone/iPad/Android.
Click Browse to choose the Destination file and rename the file.
Click Start to convert your AVCHD video to MP4.
