Netflix released the first official trailer for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver on Monday, March 18. Sofia Boutella’s character Kora and her fight against the Imperium were originally introduced to viewers in December when the first instalment of Snyder’s space epic saga debuted on Netflix. Part Two is set to be released on April 19, just four months following Part One, which concluded on a surprising note.
With an action-packed opening sequence, the sci-fi rhythm video game-style soundtrack sets the tone for what follows in the trailer. Additionally, we see some fierce, close-quarters battles in trenches as well as a stirring speech from Djimon Hounsou’s Titus.
According to the official synopsis, the second instalment continues the epic story of Kora and the remaining warriors while they “prepare to sacrifice everything."
Fighting with the Veldt people to protect a formerly peaceful village—a new haven for people who lost their homes in the conflict with Motherworld. It goes on to say that the warriors will “face the truths of their own pasts" on the eve of battle, with each one disclosing the motivation behind their fighting.
“As the full force of the Realm bears down on the burgeoning rebellion, unbreakable bonds are forged, heroes emerge, and legends are made."
Much of Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire is devoted to building up the story’s world and introducing the individuals who will accompany Kora to Veldt.
This includes the characters that are set to have even larger roles in the sequel: Michiel Huisman as Gunnar, Staz Nair as Tarak, Bae Doona as Nemesis, and Djimon Hounsou as Titus.
The trailer also prominently depicts Anthony Hopkins’s philosophical robot Jimmy, who appears to have a bigger part in the plot than in the last film.
With Kora’s squad fully assembled, it appears that Veldt will serve as the major setting for the action, however, a few shots reveal Kora and Noble fighting onboard what looks like a large spaceship.
Snyder previously stated that he intends to ultimately produce a third movie in a recent cover story with The Hollywood Reporter. In the meantime, there is going to be a podcast, a graphic novel and a photo book.
Kurt Johnstad, a co-writer of Rebel Moon, earlier stated to The Hollywood Reporter that Part Two is a totally different film. He stated that it is not a team assembly because the squad has already been formed and it is now “why they fight." He went on to say that “the ending is spectacular."
